As in a dream 24 years later

This famous poem by Li Ching Chao from the Sung Dynasty was painted by me the first time in Florence, Italy in 1997.

I liked it so much that the same poem was repainted or reinstalled several times in different locations. In my garden in Rome, I did an installation of the first work together with a new version  painted on curtain.

A catalogue registering the event was published in 2015.

Recently, due to the slippery pavement in front of our space in Mui Wo, we decided to use cement to roughen the surface.

the roughened surface then gave the inspiration of doing As in a Dream again.

nostalgic?

perhaps. it seems that my love for Li Ching Chao and Chinese  calligraphy in colour does not diminish.

maybe they have become part of me, ever since I began on the project- Chinese Calligraphy, poetry, and colour  since my student days in Edinburgh in 1982.

thank you Professor Jimmy  Cummings.

As in A Dream ( full version ) by Li Ching Chao of Sung Dynasty

Recalling:

the pavilion at sunset

so drunk that I could not find the path of going home

At the height of my fantasy upon a boat I rowed

and among the lotus I was immersed

struggling

struggling

there, the waterbirds flew

李清照之如夢令

常記溪亭日暮

沉醉不知歸路

興盡晚回舟

誤入藕花深處

爭渡

爭渡

驚起一灘鷗鷺
