Follow the Form

An attempt to just follow the form with these sketches

Found it interesting that these forms are depicted with darker tones, less colourful . They are forms, yet accidentally as if depicted as shadows. ( I happened to finish the more colourful ink )

The learning process of this series of exercises began with tracing of shadows.

But such process is not to be seen as a method or a formula.

The shadows embody the intrinsic quality of the subject matter- the bamboo.

When one paints the shadows, it is as if one is painting the bamboo.

When one paints the forms, it is as if one is painting the shadows.

Are they forms or are they shadows, or are they both? Such is the subtleties of an ancient Chinese way of seeing: realities are to be understood in possible interchange of realities, an outer and an inner chapter which can co-exist and in constant change .

This subtle interchange of forms and shadows in the expression of bamboo painting is interesting. In Chinese bamboo paintings, one almost mistakes the forms as shadows since black ink is mostly used.

Spiritual art teaching never asks for a formula. A true vision is one who sees for oneself.

A master is one who allows the student to seek his inner vision.

One has to make one's inner effort to arrive at a true vision,

Thank you to all my Masters for allowing me to seek my own vision innerly.

Thank you.

That is called generosity.
