Antonio would have enjoyed this show of Matisse in Rome.

Like Matisse, he happened to discover the CUT-- an end which signifies a new begining.

The cutting off with the hidden disease in order to start anew.

This exhibition ' L'ultimo Matisse - Morfologie di carta' gives us a glimpse of the last days of Matisse; a last period yet a new chapter.

The energy conveyed using the simplest of lines is the ' Silence ' of the Orient-- the least says the most.

Likewise, with colours, the intensity printed with hues without gradations gave us insight of the sharpest of vision by Matisse and his collaborator Te'riade in 1937 where ' the most beautiful magazine in the world-VERVE- ' was published.

It was in 1937 that David Hockney was born.

In this video , I attempt to pay homage to these two beloved artists by not intervening with comments on the beautiful show nor on the big SUMO Book I bought in Hong Kong (#5734) created by Hockney. ( TASCHEN) in 2016.

The question is:

Who cannot be indebted to artist like Matisse? The exhibition with the fluid hand written calligraphy of Matisse in the JAZZ edition (1947) suggests the clarity of soul which is the very basics of the essence of Matisse's statement: the flatness of works, of space that remind us of the notion of honesty.

Illusion is no longer necessary for the Spirit. Clarity is the very expression of our spiritual selves.

The two dimensionality of expression came from the appreciation of Oriental prints, and perhaps, in this modern day terms, it simply means; the gift of being awarded the quality of an internal vision: the vision of light-inner light. ( Hence the Vatican permanent collection of the works related to the opera prepared for the Chapel of the Rosary in Vence, France, has been included in the video )

I concluded the Matisse section with his work Bateau ( the boat ) as Antonio would have enjoyed it.

The movement that Matisse managed to convey with the two simple triangles and some curves tells his profound understanding of seeing ' in between'.

The space left void is more eloquent than the form.

For a Master who is an expert in governing form - he conquered himself only by renouncing the very form he knew best.

Formless form all of sudden turn into movement: from inner light into inner movement.

We see colour turning into light and light turning into movement.

We are all indebted to a Master from the west who could lead us to the depth of consciousness of a Master of Spiritual Self of the Far East.

The song was sung by me ( selected text translated by me from Chinese to English/Italian) without music. As a non professional singer, I humbly beg the audience to tolerate my rawness in expressing the tunes. The lyrics seem to a dd on an oriental dimension of understanding to the hidden movement of both of the artists' works and I hope this song ( which is essentially a prayer ) could reach Heaven where Matisse and Antonio reside.
